Weekend Getaway: Destin

If you’ve never heard of Destin, let me take this opportunity to enlighten you on what will very easily become one of your favorite places.

Destin, Florida sits on the panhandle on the Gulf of Mexico and is a white sand beach oasis. Some may consider it a little sister to Panama City Beach, but this town has a life of it’s own!

I visited Destin on my bachelorette party and while it was off season it was still quite the party.

Where to Stay

We had a group of 15 women, so we needed A LOT of room, and bathrooms of course! The best option for a large group is definitely to rent a house, which we did through 360 Blue Property Management. We were in a new construction home with an elevator, pool, beach cruisers, and more than enough space for everyone.

What to Do

Like I mentioned, I’m writing this based off of my bachelorette party so everything that we did will not be disclosed in writing. However, I will spill on some of the more universal activities we did.

Hit the Water

When visiting Destin it is an absolute must to rent a boat, head out to Crab Island, and if you’re lucky the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf depends on boat size, wind, waves, etc because you must be safe.

Paradise Pontoon
Paradise Pontoon Ride

We chartered two pontoons and privately hired a captain through Paradise Pontoon which I highly recommend. We had Captain Shay as our main guy and he was absolutely fabulous. Everything was above and beyond. He pointed out all the hotspots, took drone videos for us to have, and dropped us off right at the Margaritaville for post-cruise drinks!

I’m secretly a Parrot-head by the way, in case anyone missed that. It’s one of my goals to visit every Margaritaville, which I know is silly but I just love them so much. Ultimate happiness is a frozen drink, a view, great music, and the ones you love surrounding you!

Hit the Bars

Ready to paint the town red but don’t feel like waiting on Ubers everywhere you go? Why not get a party bus? We booked 30A Party Bus and while we had a few *minor* issues with our driver, it was the ultimate way to get around.

If you search their IG feed, you just may find a certain friend on a certain feature of this party bus. You will definitely have visions of prom night!

At Destin Harbor Boardwalk there is an incredible stretch of bars facing the water which obviously elevates any evening plans. We went every night of the trip and got an awesome sampling of these party spots. It’s also where Margaritaville is located!

Hit the Beach

Obviously, when you’re surrounding by white sand beaches and crystal blue waters, you have to hit the sand! We went on the last week of February and of course were cursed with a cold spell, but nothing stops me from putting my toes in the water.

My entire bachelorette party was a surprise and I think my absolute favorite part was our beach bonfire. We drove up to a beach entrance and when I looked out onto the sand there was an incredible set up with chairs for everyone, a welcome sign, a big bonfire, wine, and snacks to party as the sun set.

Light Me Up
Last Roast on the Coast

Light Me Up 30A is the company we used and it’s a husband-wife team who put on this incredible experience. I cried it was so perfect (I was also maybe a bit tipsy). Even with the intense wind, the sunset was beautiful, the music was cheerful and we just had an absolute party.

Light Me Up offers a few different packages, literally something for everyone. One of them comes with a photographer, Champion Photography, and I highly recommend it. It’s so hard to get good photos on vacation and this was an inexpensive add on that now let’s me look back on this trip with some of the prettiest photos of my favorite people.

If you’re searching for your next trip to Paradise, especially if you want to stay in the U.S. please, please, please give Destin a try. I am itching to go back so badly! Should we go together?!
